Trauma Therapy
All too frequently, people go through difficult and life-changing experiences. Everyone hopes that they will rebound, brush it off, and move on. Sometimes that does happen.
Then there are the times when we continue to struggle. Our lives become hard to live, and it can feel like we’re fighting ourselves. Our own thoughts and feelings are distressing, and overwhelming. It can be challenging to trust others, know or express our emotions effectively, or feel close with our loved ones. But there’s hope!
Therapy is one of the most effective ways to treat trauma. The trauma therapy that we practice at Fidanexa Counseling can gently guide you to a better life.
What Makes Us Unique
We are familiar with several traumas, including attachment injuries, abuse, bullying, complex trauma, crisis situations, neglect and many others. Trauma therapy with us is gentle, supportive, and predictable. We are here to help you navigate your intense trauma symptoms, while going at a pace that you can handle.
Here’s more about what that looks like:
You always maintain the right to say “stop, no more, that’s enough for today.”
We make sure that you understand what the work looks like and where it’s going, to avoid surprises.
We’ll work on increasing your safety and reducing your distress.
You’ll learn skills to cope better and know when trauma is impacting you.
Even though we can’t change the past, trauma therapy can help you stop hurting so much, and bring you closer to the life that you want.

It’s a common starting point for therapy, to have some uncertainty about what you’ve been through. Your experiences might meet the definition of trauma, or not. We can support you either way. We can work with you to talk through your experiences and discuss the effects that they have on your life. We can discuss the differences between trauma, grief, and other mental health concerns. This collaborative effort can help you find answers to your questions, and give you options on moving forward. And yes, we can give you a diagnosis to accurately reflect your struggles.

We can help with that! Post-traumatic stress disorder is one of many outcomes when someone is exposed to trauma. Our hope is to move your trauma from an intense and overwhelming experience, to one that is manageable and no longer impactful.

Currently, we practice Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness practices. These approaches are effective for trauma and supported by research. We can discuss which of these approaches might work well for you.

You are, of course, encouraged to consider your options.
There are multiple ways to treat trauma that are well-known, supported by research, and effective. But even effective therapies can be too intense or unhelpful for some. Many people we work with like our gentler approach, especially if they have tried other methods without success.

A gentler approach to trauma therapy can take months, or more than a year. Some of the factors that influence this timeframe include how many traumas you experienced, if a particular trauma happened once or multiple times, whether it occurred as an adult or a child, and how much support you already received around the trauma.
